Fallen Lucky
Gosh! Maybe I'd better leave...
The page you are about to read likely contains information that you probably haven't seen for yourself. Be sure to free yourself from spoilers!

Rugby is one of the 7 minigames that Lucky, Momotaro, and his friends can compete in. It is located in Oni Island where you compete against The Oni, champions of rugby.

This is the only game where you can play as a character other than Lucky. Along with Momotaro's team, you can compete against the Onis in a game based on real-life rugby. The Onis try to stop you, and your goal is to go to the green area at the end of the maps with the rugby ball.

There are 2 maps as of August 24. The second map is quite more complex and harder in difficulty than the first one. It also doesn't contain any power ups.

Gameplay[]

Avoid obstacles and enemies to get the ball across the field
RugbyBall

The rugby ball

Gameplay takes place in an island secluded in the lava of Oni Island. Lucky, who has the ball first, starts on the west of the island. The goal is to reach the east, which is a grassy area, without getting caught by the Onis. If they touch you, the game is over. Lucky can counteract this by passing on the ball to his team by pressing space. There are also various rocks which act as obstacles for both the player and the Onis.

Maps[]

You can find two maps where you can play rugby. The first is to be found when entering Oni Island. The second can be found after completing the Little Motivator trophy.

Onis[]

There are two types of Onis, each with a different skin who will try to take the ball from you. Onis can also be of two different sizes. Each type has their own mechanic. Onis also pause when they are not in the screen any more.

Red Blue
Big Big red Onis are mainly equivalent to its smaller variant except they have a larger hitbox. It is slower than the player. 2 of them can be found near the endzone, one at the top and one at the bottom. Big blue Onis sometimes chase the player, and sometimes runs off before resuming chase. This Oni is faster than the player. 2 of them can be found after the first Red Oni and one can be found near the middle.
Small Small red Onis constantly chase the player. They move slower than the player. 2 of them can be found, one at the start of the map and one in the middle. Small blue Onis charge at the player at regular intervals. They pause for a short while after charging. 6 of them can be found near the endzone, 3 at the top and 3 at the bottom.

Power ups[]

PowerUp

The two current power ups

There are two power ups which are only dispersed in the first map. These help the player in defending or attacking the Oni team. Each power up adds a similarly-shaped aura around the player. Picking up a power up while another one is active will replace the old effect with the new one. All power ups last for 5 seconds.

Yellow Power Up[]

The yellow power up is in the shape of a lightning bolt. It gives the player additional speed and allows them to outrun blue Onis.

Red Power Up[]

The red power up is in the shape of an angry Lucky's head, and gives a fiery aura when used. When in effect, the player can kill the Onis by touching them for extra points. The Onis will run away from the player during this time.

Score[]

The score is determined by the number of meters travelled east multiplied by 10. You also get 100 extra points per Oni killed using the red power up.

Tips[]

  • The shadows/circles under the characters' feet represent their hitboxes.
  • Always try to pass the ball if you're about to be caught by an Oni.
  • You can control which teammate to pass to by pressing the up or down control.
  • Onis can be blocked by obstacles for a short while.
  • You are able to outrun the red Oni, but you must use other means against the blue one.
  • Since the small blue Onis do not change direction after charging, you can dodge them by moving out of line right when they start charging.
  • The yellow power up helps you reach the endzone faster and avoid blue Onis.
  • The red power up makes Onis run away from you, and you are able to kill them during this time by touching them.
  • To maximize your score, try to get the Onis to group up near the red power up before collecting it, but make sure to do so before they get to you.

Trivia[]

  • Before the August 24 update, the score used to increase more rapidly as you went further east.
  • The maximum possible legitimate score on Rugby is 3270, 1970 from a bottom lane touchdown plus 1300 from killing all 13 Onis with red power ups.
  • There used to be a blue power up in the shape of a ninja head, which unleashed a sphere around the player when used. It made the player invincible and able to travel through walls. This was removed after August 24 due to a bug that allowed the player to go outside of the map and gain infinite points.
  • You can move further into the endzone by moving across the bottom part of the map. You can still win by moving up once you reached the end. This will give you extra points within the boundary of the map.
  • The small blue Oni still charges at the player even if he is using the red power up.
  • The normal sized Onis will play their scared animation briefly when they get very close to the player.
  • The color of the rugby ball changes if using a power up.
  • This minigame was originally not planned, that is, one of the engineers themselves made a prototype of this minigame. Other makers approved this prototype.[1]
  • The Red Power Up is a reference to PacMan.[2]
